Role of 4 Integrin (CD49d) in the Pathogenesis of Diabetic Retinopathy
نویسندگان
چکیده
PURPOSE. The pathophysiology of diabetic retinopathy is mediated by leukocyte adhesion to the vascular endothelium of the diabetic retina, which results in endothelial injury, blood– retina barrier breakdown, and capillary nonperfusion. Leukocyte adhesion is triggered by the interaction of vascular endothelium adhesion molecules, such as ICAM-1, with leukocyte integrins, such as CD18. Inhibition of ICAM-1/CD18 signaling suppresses but does not completely abolish the cardinal manifestations of diabetic retinopathy, suggesting a role for additional adhesion molecules. Integrin 4 (CD49d), in complex with integrin 1, forms very late antigen-4 (VLA-4), which interacts with vascular cell adhesion molecule-1. The authors have now studied the role of integrin 4/CD49d in the pathogenesis of diabetic retinopathy.

Therapeutic potential of Juglans regia L. leaf extract against diabetic retinopathy in rat
Objective(s): Oxidative stress has a pivotal role in the pathogenesis of diabetic retinopathy (DR). Juglans regia L. (JRL) leaf extract has hypoglycemic and antioxidative properties. This study aimed to determine the ameliorative effects of JRL against diabetic retinopathy. Materials and Methods: The DR rat model was generated by injection of streptozotocin (STZ). A subset of the diabetic rats ...
متن کاملComparison of axial length of the eye in patients with diabetic retinopathy and non diabetics
Introduction: To compare the axial length of globe in patients with diabetic retinopathy with that in normal population and to evaluate its role in the progression of diabetic retinopathy. Methods: 150 patients with diabetic retinopathy in both eyes were compared with 150 age and sex matched non diabetic patients, referred to Motahari retina clinic of Shiraz, during fall 2000. The axial length...
متن کاملGenetic polymorphisms of glutathione-s-transferase M1 and T1 genes with risk of diabetic retinopathy in Iranian population
Objective(s):To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report on the contributions of GST genetic variants to the risk of diabetic retinopathy in an Iranian population. Therefore, the objective of this study was to determine whether sequence variation in glutathione S-transferase gene (GSTM1 and GSTT1) is associated with development of diabetic retinopathy in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2D...
متن کاملAssociation between diabetic retinopathy and genetic variations in alpha2beta1 integrin, a platelet receptor for collagen.
Platelets might be involved in the pathogenesis of diabetic microangiopathy. Wide interindividual variations in the density of a platelet collagen receptor (alpha2beta1 integrin or glycoprotein Ia/IIa) are reportedly associated with polymorphism(s) in the gene encoding the alpha subunit of the receptor, including a Bgl II polymorphism in intron 7. The aim of the present study was to determine t...
متن کاملSerum Levels of Interferon-Gamma in Patients with Diabetic Retinopathy
Background: In recent years, numerous studies have addressed the role of other factors, especially the immune system, on developing diabetic retinopathy. Given the role of interferons in regulating immune system activities, the present study was conducted to investigate serum levels of interferon-gamma in patients with diabetic retinopathy. Materials and Methods: The present research was condu...
